What is a workcamp ?
Primarily, it is the implementation of useful cooperative labor in rural or
urban area, which does not require any particular skills. The project includes
tasks such as construction, heritage restoration, environment protection,
entertainment, etc. and involves small groups of 15 to 20 volunteers as well
as local inhabitants, young and less young people (from 15 years old).
Concordia requires participants to work up to 30 hours per week (this is
not a contractual commitment). What matters is the achievement of the
objective set at the beginning of the work camp. The different work and
leisure times are planned by the group with the help of Concordia’s activity
leaders.
During your stay at the work camp, you will live with people from different social backgrounds committed to a common aim, not only to work usefully and cooperatively but also to meet, discover and share an experience with an international group spirit.
International work camps for young volunteers live up to their reputation;
they are neither holiday camps nor places where young people are “placed”.
You would join a work camp for personal reasons, most of the time with a
desire to be useful, but also to encounter the local community, international
volunteers and even yourself. Work camps for volunteers are by no means
humanitarian actions. In any case, that is not Concordia’s objective.
Enjoy your work camp, and your trip !
