Projet : 4 years ago the YMCA bought Winchester House on the Isle of Wight and now use it to host both residential and daytime children’s activities. The YMCA is the largest youth welfare charity in the UK and is dedicated to developing young people physically, mentally and spiritually. This summer they would like to invite 3 Concordia medium term volunteers to support the summer Daycamps for children aged 5-14 years, to assist in the nursery (children aged from 6 weeks to 5 years), and to assist with the running of the residential centre
Travail : This project involves helping with all aspects of running a children’s centre. There is a large amount of outdoor and indoor playwork and volunteers will help with activities for children aged 0-14 years. There will be a mixture of indoor and outdoor activities, including trips to the beach, arts and crafts and themed days. Volunteers are asked to bring ideas for activities from home and are encouraged to be as involved as possible.
The YMCA Isle of Wight has a small team of permanent staff and all elements of the residential experience are considered important, so the volunteers will be required to help with daily living chores as well. This may include: serving food to the children and speaking to them to help them enjoy mealtimes, changing bedlinen and helping in the kitchen, clearing and tidying. Volunteers can expect to spend around 2 hours a day on these housekeeping chores.

Situation : Winchester House is set in large grounds on the cliff top in Shanklin and has beautiful views across across the sea and two miles of sandy beach. It is in a semi rural location but there are good transport links so volunteers will be able to get around by themselves on their days off. It is in the southeast coast of the Isle of Wight.
Hébergement : Volunteers will share an apartment at Winchester House and may share a dorm with up to 3 others. The apartment contains beds so they do not need to bring sleeping bags as all bed linen is provided. Food will be provided in the canteen and there are toilet and shower facilities and a washing machine.
Infos supplémentaires : Volunteers will be provided with £50 per week ‘pocket money’ and food and accommodation. There will also be a ‘bonus’ at the end of the project if volunteers stay for the duration and have worked hard and successfully on the project.
